Combat sports is marketed to the "casuals". It is the casuals who pay for PPV and where the big money for boxing come in from. Personally, I consider myself an advanced casual MMA fan having followed the game from the mid 2000s (Couture and Liddell era). I think MMA sort of peaked (for the moment) 5 years ago, and we are still looking for the next big star but that is hard because many fighters are evenly skilled especially at the top level.

I don't see Dustin getting the W but it definitely wouldn't hurt my feelings. Either way, I will be happy with the outcome of this fight (assuming both men finish in relatively good health, obviously). I dont understand how anyone could not be a fan of Dustin. He and Islam both just just good dudes and about as good of role models as the sport has to offer. We could use a lot more like them.

Islam has all the aspects in winning this fight. He's younger and in his prime, he's more well-rounded and a protege of the greatest lightweight of all time in Khabib. But make no mistake, Dustin still has the power in that left hand and has the puncher's chance. All he has to do is just to figure out how to land that left hook to Islam because if he does connect cleanly, it's game over for Islam.

@the-beneficiary1809 Yes, those steroids helped him a lot in developing strong, defensive striking, judo trips and throws, effective clinch striking, lethal submissions, and body weight awareness in wrestling, you must use that steroid, hopefully it may proved "the beneficiary" for the development and awareness of your not so beneficiary mind.

Islam was able to take advantage of his southpaw stance against Volk's orthodox, which absolutely led to the head kick finish in their second fight. I'm curious if he'll revert back to a more grappling focused style against Poirier, especially given the southpaw vs southpaw stances that will be on display.

He is definately gonna be grappling heavy. He'll use the striking and kicks to transcend to grappling and eventually a submission. Because that is Islam and the AdbulManap/AKA camp fight strategic always. PLAY IT SAFE and JUST WIN. dont worry if it is boring just pay safe and win.

Dustin can’t stand with Islam like he does with others! He will not be able to be constantly aggressive because of the fear of the takedowns! Look at all the great Strikers we have and how passive they are against Khabib and Islam! Volk,Justin,Bobby, Conor! It is not the same! Dustin could only turn up 10 seconds against Khabib in the standing.

All Makachev needs is either go to wrestling mode or stay on kickboxing range and there will be absolutely nothing Poirier can do. Just need to avoid boxing range and that's it.

Coach you missed at 13:25 Islam if he is ever in that position he will 100 percent take down poirier by foot sweeping him. If I saw that, Islam will definitely use one or twice in the fight. Islam has some crazy techniques with his legs/foot in the clinch or whenever he is trying to defend a takedown or get one himself.

That is exactly what I am and it makes you comfortable in either stance. But it does sort of change the jab and the kick. But when you can switch they dont know what's coming. Most people have a weak side. But not the guy who is left footed and right handed or visa versa.

This is going to be a really hard match up to predict, on paper, Islam Makachev is one of the most complete fighters on the roster, pound 4 pound No.1, his striking, grappling, wrestling, all aspects of his martial arts game is absolutely top notch, but on the other hand we have Dustin Poirier, a true veteran of the sport, who has got some of the best boxing skills in the sport, and is crafty enough to set up traps and get the job done. All it takes is one shot for DP, like in the BSD fight. It’s going to be an absolutely incredible match up and I so excited. 😊

It worries me that Dustin’s last loss was a head kick knockout and Islam’s last win was a head kick that led to a TKO. Then again, Dustin fights southpaw so may not have the same effect.

5:58 also TheWeasle mentioned that the reason this kick was also devistating was because of volks left hand not in the right place to stop the kick from going though his head, earlier in the fight volk had his left hand in thr right place and you saw the kick from islam still hit volk but didnt go through, more like a light tap on the side of the head

The one thing that Islam shouldn't do in this fight is to be over-confident. He knows that he's obviously the better fighter but he shouldn't forget that Dustin has power in both hands and if Dustin can land a shot cleanly at Islam, he can knock him out.

But that kick wont be there because they are not crossed guard so first part of the analisis kind of usless in the context of this fight the inside kick wont be there there will also not be a battle for outside foot placment and the lead hand tapping wont be there as that mostly happens in crossed guards which they are not in this fight
